Think Different, Make a Difference

Grace hopper conference

This year’s Grace Hopper Conference saw a unique track called ‘Think Different, Make a Difference’ and I was all excited when I got connected to the topic. I went ahead submitted my presentation which got selected by the committee. I was ‘Speaker’ at largest international conference held for Women in Technology.

The greatest opportunity was co-presenting along with Sushmeetha Bubna director of VoiceVision.

The track organizers were Shylaja & Krithika from SAP Labs who introduced me and Sushmeetha, and told us to come up with a combined presentation for the track.

It was startling that me and Sushmeetha had our own unique journey which molded us for what we are today, knowing Sushmeetha’s story on how she encountered multiple surgeries before she lost her vision but never lost her vision to be successful in her all endeavors was an eye opener.

We both twined our stories with our childhood experience, education, and professional encounters and how we use technology to par our strengths among the non-disabled and how both our families prove greatest strength and support system for all the achievements.

The conference took place at Lalith Ashok, it was crowded with close to 2000 women across IT industry and everyone where given a registration goodie bag which had some amazing innovative goodies from some companies 🙂

Our session was at the Kalinga filled with close to 300+ people, while we both staged to unfold our journeys, the challenges we faced and how we had overcome them and believed that possibilities are limitless.

Session was received very well, with many seeking support to establish such initiatives in their respective organizations.

Krithika dedicated this quote to us before closing the session “The challenges in our lives are there to STRENGTHEN our CONVICTIONS. They are NOT there to run us over.” Your ability is STRONGER than your disability. Do not underestimate yourself by comparing yourself with others. It’s our differences that make us unique and beautiful.”

It was a great experience to be a part of this track and work with both of you. Congratulations for a wonderful session and definitely the message to think different and see abilities has deeply rooted after the session. Thanks to both of you.
